MacBook Pro Cracked Screen

I'm baffled. I treat my electronics very well simply because I spend a lot of money on them and want them to last a long time. However, I went to use my computer this morning and at first noticed a scratch on my screen, after further investigation there is a crack in the top portion of my screen from one side to the other. My question is since I've had this particular MacBook less then a year, would that be covered for replacing? If not, how much would one cost?

I'm really confused as to how this even happen.

Thanks!

Are you saying you broke your computer and want Apple to fix it? For free?

No I am not. I did not break my computer. The screen is cracked and I'm wondering if it is covered? This MacBook Pro is less then a year old.

We can't answer that because we're just other Mac users like you.

https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro/service/faq/ - 4. What kind of activities will void my warranty?  You will have to be able to convince them it wasn't an "accident".

Thanks!

Its not only you, mine had the very same problem, and as I have heard it has happened to others as well, they told me it was my fault and didn't respond with the warranty although I did nothing to the screen, and I'd had it for only 3 moths¡¡¡

This happened to me a few days a go! Like you I'm extremely careful with my electronic equipment, it sits in one place and is rarely moved.

I noticed a mark on the screen and lightly used the cloth provided by Apple to remove what I thought was a smudge. It then became a 5/6" crack!!

I called Apple and the advisor said I was covered by my one year warranty and I should take it to Stormfront in the centre of town and they would send it off to be repaired.

Next day I get a phone call to say it wouldn't be covered and it would cost over £800 to fix!!! After I laughed at the guy over the phone he said he was serious!

Let me make this clear THIS WAS NO ACCIDENT!

The response I got from them was that it was "cosmetic". A crack to the display cosmetic?! Surely the display is a functional part of the laptop?!? Cosmetic would be the exterior casing surely!?!?

Long story short I'm now waiting for a "second opinion" from Apple. I'm not holding my breath.

Very disappointed that Apple would treat their customers like this.

They said I needed to change the entire screen even if the crack presented only in the glass outide

Now I'm looking for an independant repair person since Apple wants to charge almost$700 to replace it! Ugh!!!

You can price a new screen at www.ifixit.com

For a late 2011 unibody MBP 15", the display assembly alone is priced at $650-$750 and the replacement is not trivial, easily I could see a couple of hundred in labor.

I'm just saying check prices of course, but it may be that $700 from Apple may be pretty reasonable.

I'm no warranty expert but you're cuaght between a rock and a hard place. If you have a non-Apple person work on it for the screen, it will likely void any remaining warranty you have on the rest of the unit.

Could you provide pictures of the cracks?

Here is the picture...hope you can see the crack. Honestly it's more of a thing that I know it's there. My computer works great.
