Change iCloud default email

My first apple device was an iPod so when I set up my iCloud I used a work email for a now defunct company. I would like to switch it to a personal email I use and have access to on a daily basis. I don't want to lose what I have stored so would rather not create a new Acct either. Is this possible? 

Any advice pointing. E in the right direction would be great
