Storing documents automatically on iCloud

With macOS Sierra, your desktop and your Documents folder — where files are usually saved on a Mac — can also be automatically stored in iCloud Drive, so every file you add is accessible anywhere. How do I set this up please? Important - not by "duplicating" the document onto iCloud - rather, saving them there and only there (i.e. one copy).
