file itunes library.itl cannot be read

Hi,

I had ITunes version 12.7.9.166 installed which I reinstalled today because it wasn't displaying the iPod. Now when I want to open ITunes I get error message: "The File iTunes Library.itl. cannot be read because it was created by newer version of iTunes."

What is the updated advice for handling this? All the advice I've googled is quite old.
