Is there a way to lock/hide apps or folders?

I have searched the forums but have not found a definite answer.

I'd like to either hide or lock some of my FPS games so my kids cannot access them.

Is there a native way to do this? Or do I need an app? And if so, what app is recommended. Don't necessarily need pw protection, just a way to hide a folder.

TIA.

You can't hide a folder. You can "hide" an app by placing it in some remote folder, like on the last page. Can't lock apps either. You can add parental restrictions to prevent others from ordering products from within a game, say. I'm not familiar with that avenue, perhaps someone else can address this.

I thought I would jump in on this subject due to a little problem I'm having that fits in here. Since upgrading to 4.3 I can no longer locate the apple app store icon on my Ipad 1..... No kidding! The only other possible explaination is that I let my 7 year old Grandson use it yesterday and if he could hide it, he would but I didn't think that was possible (along with other apple device apps).

I have not found another issue similar to this anywhere. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

it can't be hidden or deleted so he must have put it in some dir look further

The App Store is one of the apps that can be restricted (hidden, not shown not available) via the restriction in Settings>General>Restrictions.

I had restricted it so the Grandkids couldn't emty the bank....I forgot and feel like an idiot!

I hate it when this happens!

Thanks for the help,
Mike

I am still seeking a way to do this. I placed my fps games on the last (4th) page, but they are still accessible to a wily 8 year old. Placing then in a folder won't really be a deterrent.

If any one has a solution, even an app, pls share. There must be others who have this issue.

Others have this issue, but there is no solution beyond deleting the app from your iPad when a child is using it. No app could do this - the design of the iOS is that apps can not control each other.

Thought that it was lame that it's not a feature but it drives me nuts that this feature is impossible to implement with an app.

I love some of the kid apps that are amazing for learning, but then they can also hit the home button and then go to Netflix and watch stuff that isn't age appropriate.

Actually there is a simple app to do that. It is called poof.  Unfortunately it is not in app store I don't know why. And it is free. You can hide any app with it. I use it to hide the stock app of apple and other apps that I don't want my kids or anybody else to mess with. You can even hide poof itself. It is very easy to use.

In order to install apps that are not in the App Store, you would to have had to have jailbroken your iPad. Discussions of jailbreaking are, except for the most general, not permitted.

Well they should find a way to hide apps. How am i supposed to buy maxim magazine whitout everyone on the ipad nothising?

Don't let people use your iPad if they're are going to be snooping around in your stuff. Or simply passcode it. Or, don't buy things you're embarrassed to let people know you have.

the ipad is designed to be a single user device, so there is no support for partitioning or multiple users. As a result of that there is no real parental controls beyond the restrictions.

Access to that part of Apple's core programming isn't something they generally allow to app developers. The most you can really do is to send Apple feedback, telling them of the need for parental control and see if they will respond.

An app or even part of the iOS, this would be a great function to have.

My 5 year old loves playing games like Disney's Water? on the iPad. The only problem is, is that as it only allows 1 player and he ends up playing over my game and it drives me insane

If there was a way to either hide it OR even have 2 copies installed would be perfect!

Maybe the easy answer though is to just go and buy him his own iPad
