How to go from 10.6.8 to 10.9 on late 2008 MacB...

My late 2008 MBP is running 10.6.8. It's getting to where a lot of software is no longer working. Dropbox just announced that they are requiring 10.9 at the minimum.

There are no updates available when I check. What is recommended?

get El Capitan from the App Store

Hi,

As macjack has posted, 10.11/El Capitan is your upgrade path. You cannot get 10.9/Mavericks from Apple unless you have downloaded it from the App Store before, which it appears you have not.
