Mid 2015 Macbook Pro

I have a Mid 2015 15" Retina Macbook Pro, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 2.8GHz i7 CPU. Battery is on 773 cycles.

No incidents, drops, water spills. Battery life is generally bad (~ 3 hours with 50% screen brightness and mild usage), but some days ago it started behaving really weirdly: after the battery level gets really low - or discharges completely - and I plug the MagSafe, some minutes after it's charging the fans start spinning real fast and the MBP gets really hot. It's completely unresponsive and the only solution is to hold the power button and turn it off completely.

It has a fresh Sierra installation running.

Any ideas about what could be causing this and how to solve it?
