Skype icon as an ''Apple... Works'' icon ?

I'm having a weird problem started today with the Skype icon at bottom of the screen which for some reason switched to an ''Apple Works'' (that ''A'') icon... At first I was thinking Skype had totally disappeared (and it's same in the Launchpad)...

Have asked the question on Skype community at same time, but since this is likely an OSX ''feature'' (to modify icons... even though I have no idea ''how''...), thought it would be worth to write here as well...

Have no idea if I had done something for this - obviously during a call - but have no idea either on how to bring that Skype icon back...

Thanks,

Rob

I'm not aware of any macOS feature that changes app icons without asking permission first.  I'd make sure macOS is up to date, then make sure Skype is up to date as well.  If you're still having issues, you could try to repair your disk in Disk Utility. This will make sure that file permissions are set correctly.  You could also relaunch the Finder by clicking the Apple menu in the top left corner of your computer, then clicking "Force Quit...", selecting Finder, then clicking the blue Relaunch button.

What icon does Skype have in the Applications folder?

If it is the Skype icon, then do following: quit the Skype application, then grab the faulty icon in the Dock bar and move it off the Dock bar keep holding it for long second then let go and the dock icon is pffff gone. Now open the applications folder again, grab Skype and move it onto the Dock, when it is sitting between the other Dock icons, let go.

When the Applications folder has also the wrong icon for Skype:

quit and then move the Skype app to the Trash,

remove the faulty icon from the Dock bar as above,

download Skype again, install it and in the Applications folder it should have the app with the correct icon,

grab Skype and drop it on the Dock bar as above.

empty the Trash.

EDIT: don't be afraid to losse something by doing this: communications and settings and contacts are all in the cloud in your skype account.

Drag the icon off the Dock— and then drag a new icon from the Applications folder back to the Dock

Tried both replies here : in Application folder, Skype icon appears correctly, But if I remove the faulty icon from the dock and slide the correct icon from the Application folder to the Dock, it turns immediately to that ''A'' icon again !!...

With the new icon in place, what happens if from the terminal app., you copy and paste:

killall Dock

That's it leroy !

or Relaunch Finder in the forcequit menu of the apple menu.

great!

If what leroy posted doesn't work, you need to look in your user Library/Applications Support/Dock for the .db. Use the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/Library/Applications Support/Dock.  Move the .db to your desktop.

Then try a dock reset.

Applications/Utilities/Terminal enter the command

killall Dock

Log out/in test. If it works okay, delete the .db from the desktop.

If the Dock is the same, return the .db to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.

I have the faulty icon in my applications folder as well, tried trashing and reloading, and it still has the faulty icon.
