Start up change to a previous Mac

When I boot up my Mac it boots the start up setting and I would like it to boot up to the backup I installed on it from a previous Mac. How do I make it do this?

At the present time I have to log out of the start up and log on to a different name.

It sounds like when you migrated from the old Mac you had a different name for your Home folder than on your current Mac? That will create a new user on your Mac and your old data will be in the new user. If you have everything you need under the new user account, you can make it an admin account and delete your current one.

Or, you could drag the data from the new user name into your Shared Folder and then into your account.

Or, you could wipe the drive, change the Home folder name on your old Mac to the same name as the new Mac and use Migration Assistant again.

If the backup is bootable, should be able to see it when you hear the startup chime and hold the Option key down.
