iMac Black Screen

I have an iMac that when power on gives the audible indication of startup, the apple appears on screen with then it goes away and the screen goes black and ultimately a movable cursor appears in the top left corner of the display. Any ideas how to correct the issue so it will startup normal

Try resetting the PRAM per the directions in Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets. Then see if it works. Please post back with  your results.
