Calendars gone crazy

The past few days Calendars has gone mad. Every time I click on an event to make changes or click to add a new event multiple events are created. Some times I get 3, 4 or more new events added. The app has gone completely mad. Is any one else getting this erratic behaviour?

 

Am using Calendar 9.0 / Sierra 10.12.1

To recap, the Calendar app on your Mac is making duplicate events.

Let's start with quitting the Calendar, then holding the shift key while launching Calendar again.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, let's have you log out of your user account and test the issue from a different user.

Thank you for the reply. Though I only did a quick test, the problem did not seem to happen when I tested Calendar as a different user.

 

I logged back in as myself and deleted the preferences file but the problem still continues.

So if you tested it on another user account, let's try booting up in safe mode. This article provides instructions on how to do this:

It's seems to have corrected itself. Thank you anyway

Cr*p, it started up again. Clicking on an existing event to edit will cause new events to be created, these new events usually span several days. Clicking on one of these new events to delete cause another event to be created. And so on.... Argh.

Here's other quirks I am having:

 

I double click an even to to edit it. The even window opens. When I place the curser in the event field and click so that I can edit the field a new event is created.

 

I drag an even to a different time and a new event is created.

Update:

 

I believe that I had a corrupt directory that was causing the erratic behavior. Doing the Apple Hardware test seemed to fix the problem. Because of other problems I decided to reformat my drive and do a clean install and this seems to have fixed the problem.
