medialibraryd misuse at line errors

Since upgrading my iPhone 6 Plus to iOS 11 and iTunes to version 12.7.0.xxx (currently 166), I've been having issues where the iPhone starts to sync OK and then sits for ages stating 'Waiting for Items to Copy'.  Eventually I have to stop the sync (after 3 to 4 hours) and find that the iPhone no longer allows the Music app to load (starts then shows a blank screen) and iTunes reports no items on the device and all of the space being used by other (screen shot below)

I checked the iPhone log in Console and found a constant medialibnraryd error (as below) reported by the system:

The only way to recover the situation is to restore the iPhone and let it re-sync all data back.  This is driving me crazy.

Has anyone else seen this issue, or have any advice on why the phone does the 'Waiting for Items to Copy' issue?
