Power Problem

My computer won't start, it goes on when i press the power button but only goes half way then shuts down?

It started freezing a few days ago now it won't even turn on.  Could it be the power button needs replacing?

Judging from your problem I will suggest you try out these Troubleshooting options

1. How to reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
2. Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

Yes, it does then a bar showing progress of starting up then gets half way and the computer shuts off, could it be the new monitor i just bought and hooked up, it's an LG 32" sais it is compatible with PC and MAC ?

When your Mac shows the solid Apple, it can only do so because the first "blob" of boot-up software has been successfully loaded from your Boot Drive and successfully started up -- the solid Apple is NOT present inside the machine at power-on.

To make additional progress, many additional files are needed, by name. So your Mac Initializes the File System and attempts to MOUNT the boot drive to load files by name.

If the Drive Directory is damaged, your Mac initiates ONE cycle of disk Repair, which takes a typical five minutes additional. A the end of that time, your Mac tries to Mount the boot Drive again.

-- if it Mounts, boot-up proceeds.

-- if it does NOT Mount, your Mac can make no further progress in booting up. So it will do a Power-Off.

To appempt to fix this problem, boot into recovery, select Utilities, Disk Utility.

Repair or First Aid the boot drive repeatedly until it comes clean or gets stuck.

How do i boot into recover, and select anything if the computer shuts off.

Hold Command-R at Startup.
