Do you need an actual Iphone for the new watch

I have an ipad mini 4 cellular with data, do I need an actual Iphone to work with its wireless plan thingy? I just want to be able to get an apple watch working with my ipad mini 4 cellular...

Yes, you do. Apple Watch cannot be paired, set up or synced with an iPad.

 

  • To use Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) requires an iPhone 6 or newer model with the latest version of iOS.
  • To use Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) or earlier models of Apple Watch requires an iPhone 5s or newer model with the latest version of iOS.
