lost music with new phone

Hi, I'm new to all of this so please be kind to me as I am completely lost in trying to solve my problem. I recently got a new IPhone 7. Prior to that, I had an IPhone 6 that ran great although it had barely any storage. I do have a ton of pictures and I know that was the biggest issue when I upgraded my phone. However, my problem lies with my music. It took me years to accumulate a tidy play list with all my favorite music downloaded exactly where I wanted it for certain situations, working out, classical, folk, alternative and so on... When my husband set up my new phone a month ago, ALL my playlists were gone and only half my music was present. I'm so confused and almost in tears as I am trying so hard to find my old music on my computer but I cant locate it anywhere. The music is still on my old phone and exactly where I want it but I am so afraid to connect it as I think the same thing will happen and then I will have lost it all. I also do not want my purchased music in the format that relatively new desktop computer and updated version on ITunes chose to organize it as there is now a tiny cloud (download option) next to the songs that are coming up. I already purchased them, why is it asking me if I want them downloaded again? Bottom line: all I want is ALL my music back, on my desktop and my new IPhone7, in the original libraries, downloaded without losing anything. Again, I am sorry if I sound incompetent but I don't know where else to turn. Thanks so much!
