SSD Internal Drive Showing Up As External Drive!

Hello,

My Internal SSD is showing up as an external drive.  I did a backup of all the data to another drive, erased it and re-partitioned it but it is still showing as a removable external drive.  I don't know what to do as it "was" my startup drive so in the meantime I installed OSX on another drive for now.  Would there possibly be a terminal command to change the drive to internal or something else I can do?

I appreciate the help.

Here are some pics to help hopefully.

I suggest you contact OWC tech support. The behavior may be normal for that device.

Is the storage on an Accelsior card ever seen as an internal drive?

Hi,

The SSD is showing correctly as the SSD is on a expansion card inside the machine.

If you would like to change the  icon:

- Under Finder right click on a internal volume and choose " Get Info  "

- click on the disk icon at the top, from the desktop menu select Edit -> Copy

- Under Finder right click on the SSD volume and choose " Get Info  "

- click on the disk icon at the top, from the desktop menu select Edit -> Paste

Cheers

Internal only when in the "real" internal sata connector. Change place with one of the internal sata connectors.

I do not understand your concern.

The Mac is perfectly able to boot and run from a drive labeled as External.

As LexSchellings said, anything not on the built-in internal bus is considered external by the OS.

By the way, don't look at your device using System Information because that will really set your head spinning:

Hi Grant,

"I do not understand your concern. The Mac is perfectly able to boot and run from a drive labeled as External.

correct, but the smart status is not read! I think it is important to have your main disk smart status read.

"Medium Type: Rotational."

Seen that before. Since the 960 GB Accelsior uses two SSD blades, are they joined together in a RAID array? The OWC Mercury Electra 3G MAX SSD 960 GB drive is, and it's also considered rotational. Being rotational, it doesn't support TRIM, which is a disadvantage.

So did anyone find a solution for this problem??

I have the same issue especially the fact when my battery is low, my computer then shuts down and when I connect it to my adapter I start it up and the screen loads but then freezes, so I need to restart my mac.

So a solution would be a very big help
