deleted email account keeps popping up

I deleted an email account last week from My iMac. Now I wish to reinstall it. Every time I try to Add An Account (this one on the list) I have to create a new mail account. When I fill out the address and password, it says the the account already exists. Funny, because I cannot see it in the list of accounts. How do I get rid of this ghost account?

Yes, I have Earthlink (what a pain) and this is my second email account with Earthlink. My other Earthlink account works just fine with Apple Mail.
