Dell Ultrasharp 34 Curved Monitor problem conne...

Hi, I connected a Dell Ultrasharp 34 Curved Monitor that when connected to my MacBook Pro Retina 13" (Late 2013) and the display is fine with the exception of a 1" vertical area on the right edge of the monitor as it shows another display background which also continuously flickers. Does anyone have a solution or perhaps the newly purchased monitor is defective. Thanks for any help you can provide. (OS X El Capitan v 10.11.6)
