How do I make Pages documents read

Is it possible to make or flag an iPad Pages document as read-only? Otherwise you may accidentally change it while reading or navigating in it. A careless touch gesture may enough to spoil it if it always is editable.

It's not possible to the best of my knowledge. A workaround - create a copy of the document as your "read-only" version. Open Pages and from the "documents" view - tap Edit in the upper right corner - tap the document that you want to copy to select it - then tap the + sign in the upper left corner. This will create a copy of your document title Document Name (the document's name) Copy.

This way you don't have to worry about tapping and changing something accidentally. Not ideal - but it works.

Not a good solution. I speak between 24 to 35 times a month. Most of my speeches are given once and never again. I just need a way to not open the keyboard accidentally and to not randomly start typing while I'm not looking. It has been an embarrassment on several occasions the the text jumps to a new place and I have to read for a while to find my place. I have also erased some of a speech without knowing it with poor consequences. I need to create a read only doc.

Print the document as a pdf and use the pdf when giving your speech

instead of using the document as a speaking guide.

While it is not possible (at the moment) to make a Pages doc read only on iOS there are some workarounds.  Tho one that seems to work best (for me at least) is to create your Pages doc and export or save however you want and use the Apple a notes app as a file manager or reader.  This way you will see all the edits,highights, links, etc that you added (links work when exported as a pdf) and if you do need to edit you can just use the share button to reopen the doc in pages and edit away.  What makes this solution even better is that you are using Apple apps so you know that they will play nice together.  After years of going through apps to figure out a solution. I feel like an idiot for not seeing this earlier, I hope this helps someone out.  You can now use the notes app to sort your docs no matter the format and whatever  don't want just delete and boom it's gone
