Monitor colors suddenly distorted

All of a sudden on my Mac Pro mid-2012 model the colors on my screen have become very distorted.

Lots of bright green and pink hues. And I can't tell when I have something selected.

I've tested the monitor with a different computer which has a VGA cable and the colors are fine.

As I'm typing the letters are green.

Should I try a new DVI cable before replacing the graphics card?

Any tests I can run before spending the $$ on a new video card?

What video card should I get if that's the issue? The stock one is a ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB.
