Trackpad randomly zooming, highlighting, keys t...

Hello,

So last night I came home to find my mac up to some weird things.

It's randomly zooming, highlighting words, bringing up the dictionary, things are being randomly typed in google searches, going to different menus and screens etc.

I did a virus scan (came up clear) and as soon as I hit start everything stopped and went back to normal. All was fine, then this morning randomly it started doing it again.

I was wondering if this would be something physically wrong with the mac or something file based ? I did think somebody was remotely controlling it but no files have been opened/nothing's been deleted etc.

As I'm now typing the Chrome page is being moved around and Photo Booth and the Dictionary both randomly opened.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

Hi,

I was wondering if you'd find a solution to this, but it looks like you haven't?

On rare occasions, a battery can "bulge," expanding up into the trackpad/keyboard area and the cables there. Obviously this can cause issues, issues similar to what your Mac is experiencing. To see if this is the case, the bottom case needs to be removed so the battery can be visually inspected. If the battery is expanding, that is almost certainly the cause. It will need to be removed and properly disposed of ASAP, before it cracks open, exposing dangerous chemicals inside. If the battery is not expanding, check the cables from the trackpad and keyboard to the logic board to make sure they're properly connected, and that they're not pinched or bent in any way. If you don't feel comfortable removing the cover and/or handling a bad battery, go to an Apple Store "genius" bar, where they can help: https://support.apple.com/contact
