Stand not tracking in Activity App of Apple Watch

Is there a setting that turns off the tracking of Standing by the activity app?  So far my watch has not tracked that I have done any standing today.

I don't know for sure this is the answer, but I suspect the watch is not literally detecting you standing up.  It tells you to stand up and move around.  I suspect it's detecting the constant movement for one minute and assumes you stood up to do that.

Try walking around for that minute and see if it affects your stats.

Regards, Patrick

Patrick123, my understanding is that the app is supposed to track when you stand, so that you only get the standing reminder if you haven't been standing in awhile. I'm having the same issue though, it's rare for an hour to go by where I haven't already gotten up to stand/walk multiple times, yet according to my watch it would show random hours where I didn't stand at all (yet I got no reminder to stand). Other times, I'll have been standing and moving around for 1-2 hours, and then 5 minutes after I actually sit down the reminder to stand will pop up.

Oddly enough, the move/exercise portions are capturing that I'm moving around and walking when I'm standing...

If apple can't make this work properly, they at least need to allow us to manually "check off" hours where we did in fact, stand.

In the middle of my 52 mile bicycle ride the watch showed there was two hours where I wasn't standing    I tracked the ride using the Activity app on the watch.

TI had the same problem.  You need to set the 'wrist detection' setting in the general settings section of the watch app on your phone.  If the watch then doesn't detect you standing up in the first 50 minutes of an hour, you'll get a reminder.  If you then stand and move around for a minute of the remaining ten minutes of the hour, you get the hour credited yo your activity.  Cycling won't be detected as standing because the watch accelerometer doesn't detect the vertical movement it associates with you standing up.

I have the same issue jwiz.  I get the reminder and stand and move but yet it says I didn't.  They need to get this working properly!!!

Thanks SO much! I went about 7-10 days trying to figure out why my stand wasn't calculating or notifying me! I turned off my wrist detection thinking it was a battery saver that I didn't need. Stand DEF working!

Yup, that fixed the issue for me as well. Thanks

same issue here and it was driving me nuts for days!! Thank you for sharing the easy solution!

My watch stopped registering stands when the time changed from daylight savings time to standard time. I rebooted the watch (held both buttons down simultaneously and that corrected the problem.

Thanks fedupmacuser for the answer. It is funny when you read what wrist detection says on the watch, you would not think it would link to the standing activity ring.

I tried toggling the wrist detection but it didn't work. Any other suggestions?

Hi

For the purpose of crediting the hourly Stand achievement, your watch aims to identify when you have stood up and moved around for at least one minute during that hour.

Apple Watch uses an accelerometer to identify movement, so arm movement equivalent to changing from a seated to a standing position followed by a minute's walk around with your arms swinging naturally should help to register this.

If you believe that you have met this requirement, but Stand credits are still not being awarded, it may help to follow these steps, which have resolved the same issue for some other users:

  • On your iPhone in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Wrist Detection - check that this is turned on.
    • Note that Wrist Detection can be affected by temporary or permanent skin changes, such as by some wrist tattoos.
  • If Passcode is enabled, check that you are unlocking your watch each day after placing it on your wrist and that you are wearing your watch sufficiently snugly (neither too tightly nor too loosely).
  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Privacy > Motion & Fitness - turn Fitness Tracking off.
  • Restart both devices by turning both off together (normally), then restarting your iPhone first:
  • Re-enable Fitness Tracking.

I had this problem some of the hours today. i thought maybe it had something to do with the location-tracking ony iPhone, so i put the phone in my pocket, took a walk around in my kitchen, and then it actually worked! :)

I hope that is it. I turned off wrist detection then realized that it stopped tracking my Stand. Weird that Apple doesn't mention this in the wrist detection description of use.... would help Apple!!!
