password required for Touch ID
why must I always enter my password to enable Touch ID? I have set up my fingerprint and checked the box for unlocking your Mac but am always prompted for password to enable Touch ID!
It's down to the way that feature works 'behind the scenes'.
Touch ID by itself does not natively have the power to unlock the pc. Enabling touch ID with your password gives Touch ID a key which it can then use when you authenticate with your fingerprint whilst it still holds that key. There are some circumstances where it will deliberately discard that key - Too many failed fingerprint authentications, or when your text password has not been used for a predetermined time.
It's a security thing.....
