Mavericks is not available, now what do I do?

I just received a macbook, 2009 or 10 edition. It had some data on it, so I tried to reset it following an online tutorial. I went to "Reinstall OS X" but when I get to the last step, it says "This item is temporarily unavailable. Try again later." But wait, it gets worse. I created a bootable usb drive, with Sierra on it, but I accidentally replaced the startup drive with that instead of just booting from it. So now, I have to boot from recovery or I get the Ø when I start up. I have a 16gb usb drive that I can use if I need it. Thanks, Sam.
