Can't print to WIFI printer after iOS 10 update...

Previously we could print out of apps to our WIFI printer HP All in one 5520, or 5560, we could also connect to the printer through the HP AiO app so we could scan documents in. We use the iPads in the field and have cellular service but not WIFI. After updating to iOS 10 on the iPads we can no longer print or connect to the printers.

I have Reset all network settings,

Shut both devices off

Uninstalled the App AiO Remote and restarted

It seems with the update it wants you to be connected iPad & printer on the same WIFI network which is the issue in the field as we do not have WIFI networks. We have never had to do this previously.

I was able to connect the printer to be able to Airprint when I used the iPad as a hotspot, this included entering a password and only allowed me to print from apps. It would still not connect in the AiO remote app.

Lets go backwards a bit so I understand. Basically how did your iPads connect to the printers before you upgraded? Were they Bluetooth? Or connected through a cable? Or WiFi?

I suggest trying out what I use, I go to what ever link/webpage that I want to be printed and I click the box with the arrow pointing upwards, scroll on the bottom box it gives you to the right until you see "Print" with the picture of the printer, then from there click it and it should show a preview of the document if you're viewing it correctly (through a download link and shows the page to where you can open it up as something else) then I select my printer (HP Envy) and I set up whether it's double sided etc. I use an iPad Mini 3 so this might be different for you but I hope it helps at least.

I am experiencing the same issue.  Went through all the steps like erinstab36 did.  We use a brother printer.  Erinstab36 did your problem get fixed and if it did what steps did you take?

I Have this problem and have resorted to sending the document to my IOS 9 iPhone and printing from there, or using the Printer Pro app.

Both are messy solutions .

I had this same issue with my iPad Air 2 as soon as I upgraded to iOS 10. Drove me nuts since it used to work before. Here's what I did:

  1. Reset Wi-Fi modem/router
  2. Made sure latest firmware was installed in printer then reset printer and reconnected to Wi-Fi
  3. Rebooted iPad by holding power on/off button and home button at same time.

Miracle of miracles, it worked!

And why should an iphone update cause you to lose such critical functionality. Can't Apple do these updates so they aren't so disruptive. Or is it a push to buy some airprinter product?

I was having problems with an epson printer and then reset modem, reset wifi router, and then re-did the wifi setup on the printer.
Then turned the phone off.  I still couldn't see the printer as I had with IOS 9, until I turned bluetooth off and then could see the wifi printer on the phone.  Now I can see the printer whether bluetooth is on or off.

I know this is an old Post however if anyone is having this issue I eventually resolved my problem by simply turning off the Bluetooth. I am in the uk. Using a hp non AirPrint printer, printing via my iPhone 7 over wifi. I have never had an issue before the last iOS update. No idea why it worked but I can only imagine that AirPrint uses Bluetooth BT default, so turning it off may switch the phone to look for the printer via the wifi network. Hope this helps someone
