Is MacKeeper real?

A pop-up on Chrome had said I have 3 viruses and needed to install Mackeeper, while this was happening a very loud blaring sound was coming out of my MacBook, which really frightened me. I ran Disk Utility and there was nothing wrong. So, is there really nothing to worry about?

MacKeeper is real ... and totally unwanted,  Do not download it under any circumstances.

But you may not have contracted it.  Run this program and send the report here as an answer to this post.
