Pair MS Surface Ergo Keyboard with MBP2011

Help! Im trying to pair the new MS Surface Ergonomic Keyboard with a 2011 Macbook pro...

Firstly, the MBP'11 doesnt support BT4.0 - so I bought an ASUS USB-BT400 dongle...doesnt say its compatible with mac but I got it to work with it by using Bluetooth Explorer.

Managed to connect to the magic mouse with the new adapter... and i could see the 'Ergonomic Keyboard' and a 'pair' option...

Clicking Pair just timed out...

Using BT Explorer I can see the keyboard and got the following information... attached... however cant pair!!!

I tried connecting it to a newer MBP that support BT4.0 and it paired - asked for 6 digits then connected... so keyboard works...

Any suggestions? In not techy but can follow instructions..
