Why must a verifiable customer be subjected to their device being disabled for a ridiculous indefinite period of time?

It's like being held "hostage"! And, why isn't there a way to recover passwords without wiping out all data? Very disappointed with this approach. You can do better Apple helping your customers with a new approach!
