Clean install or upgrade from the App Store

In my ten plus years as Mac user I have never upgraded an OS directly from the App Store. Always did clean install and restores from TM.

I'd like to hear your experience with Sierra running the upgrade from the App Store, whether the OS slow down or possible problems of the upgrade versus a clean install.

Thanks

Read Upgrading macOS without fear.  It is intended to address the concerns you express. It doesn't matter what other people experience. It's your Mac, not theirs, and only you can know how you use your equipment.

In my 17 or so years of using macOS and its predecessors I have only performed upgrade installations. No slow downs or problems of any kind.

The vast majority of upgrade problems are due to the installation and use of garbage "anti-virus", "cleaning", "maintenance" and similarly categorized products that should never be installed on any Mac. Those reports have existed since Jaguar, at least, and as long as Mac users insist upon using them those reports will arise with every macOS upgrade there will ever be.

I've done both. A clean install is a PITA and IMO not worth it unless you have problems with your present system. I did upgrade installs on El Capitan, Sierra and High Sierra and they were fine.
