How many root hubs?

Hi:

I'm wondering how many root hubs are on my mid-2014 MacBook Pro.  There are 2 USB 3.0 ports, but do they both run off of one hub, or does each USB port have its own dedicated hub?

I'm asking because I'd like to run a 2 or 3 webcam system for my music teaching studio.  I currently have 1 webcam and a high quality USB mic. I purchased an OWC thunderbolt 2 dock to increase the # of available USB ports.....of these 2 are powered such that they can charge devices (iphone, ipad, etc.) while 3 are not.

Using 1 USB on the dock and one USB on the laptop would allow a 2 camera system where each cam has a dedicated root hub. Ideally I'd like to run 3 webcams, for a view of my face, an overhead view of my piano, and a side view of the instrument.

Ultimately I'm going to have to test with 2 cams + USB mic and then 3 cams + USB mic, but it would be nice to know upfront what I'm dealing with.

My apologies for all of the extra information. I include it in the off chance its useful for someone to know why the root hub info is needed.
