How to replace my failing hhd with ssd on my 2012 mac book

Hi there wilveroom. Yes, it’s possible. Step 1- backup your hard drive. They can and do fail, not often, but usually without warning. Step 2-find a take-apart guide, such as ifixit. You’ll need a small Phillips screwdriver(# 1 or #0). You might want to dust the interior after you shut it down.  SSD’s will be more expensive than a replacement hard drive, but whatever floats your boat- they may be faster-check out macsales. com for a rough idea. In theory any SSD should work.  After installing, you’d have to format it and reinstall the OS, which you could do by pressing option, command+r( internet recovery) , or a bootable USB stick, maybe from an install DVD. Formatting would happen from OS X tools, and disk utility, you also might want to max out the ram, if you haven’t done so already
