Touch ID disappears from system preferences aft...

So to sum up. I cloned my old Retina MBP internal SSD to my new Touch Bar MBP internal SSD using carbon copy cloner. Before the clone, the fresh version of Sierra that came loaded on the new touch bar MBP had touch id options catagory in system preferences. After cloning my HD from my old Retina MBP (which is also running Sierra) to new touch bar MBP, Touch ID catagory has dissapeared from system preferences.

I would like to note I had first to clone to an external HDD. Then second, boot off the external HDD with the new MBP to carbon copy clone my old (yet up to date with sierra 10.12.3) SSD data to new MBP.

I'm still booted off the external and cloning the data over to the new Touch Bar MBP so if i'm lucky it might show up when the clone is finished and I boot off all of the new MBPs native hard. Wishful thinking maybe. ill update soon

Just finished cloning and booted straight from new touch bar MBP. Still no options to set up Touch ID appear in system preferences. It's acting like the hardware doesn't exist on the computer.

I have the same problem. Transferred files over to new MacBookPro using Migration Assistant. As I had the same username on both machines the Migration Assistant insisted I create a new user on the new MacbookPro for the transferred files. I then deleted the user that I had set the machine up with, which had included setting up Touch ID. Now I have lost touch ID and it does not appear in the System Preferences panel. Seems crazy that I can't activate it from this situation. Everything else is working fine.

I have cloned my macbook pro from 2015 model to the touch bar model using carbon copy clone. Touch id did not appears on system preferences so I made a simple search in system preferences for "touch id" it found my application, the I configured my finger, then form the same screen I push the back arrow at the left upper top of the screen (as going back to system preferences main menu) and it was enough. Now touch ID is part of my system menu options. Hope it helps to you as well.

I had this same problem when imaging a new MacBook Pro, but fixed it with this little bit of Terminal magic:

Solution: modify the preference file : ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

try this commands with the terminal :

defaults write com.apple.systempreferences hwcheck-cache-com.apple.preferences.password -int 0
defaults write com.apple.systempreferences hwcheck-cache-com.apple.preferences.wallet -int 0

The two preferences panes : "Touch ID" and "Wallet" should be present.

In my case, they didn't appear immediately, but when I searched for them using Spotlight, they appeared then stayed visible.

Still no joy in my case.  Accounts created on the Mac show TouchID in System Preferences, but the account I migrated still does not show TouchID.  If I launch TouchID via Finder I get the error: "You can’t open the “Touch ID” preferences pane because it is not available to you at this time."  One thing of interest is that looking in the Console output I see the following each time I try to launch System Preferences:
