I know about the recently deleted album. I delete photos from there and space is still taken up.

Hi. I'm having the same problem, but following this procedure doesn't work, as I usually delete all images from Recently Deleted on a regular basis, so there is nothing there and the phantom images never show up, so cannot be selected for deletion. I am considering doing a hard reset as a last resort, but I don't want to back up my data, as I'm afraid his will only backup the phantom images, also, and then I'll just be putting them right back onto my iPad when I restore it from the backup.
