no sound!  external speakers or internal.&...

Had sound yesterday.  Have no sound internal or external speakers.

1) unplug any and all external audio devices (3.5" USB HDMI)

3) reset the NVRAM, as per > How to reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

4) reconnect your external audio device.

no sound when i use computer thru spekers

iMac OS SIERRA....I had 2 online conversations, numerous reboots amongst other things. In system preferences-sound only the digital audio was available....ie no internal speakers although you could get start up sound. I think it started after an update. When you pressed the volume up or down on the keyboard you got a o with a / through it like a mute symbol. I was told i needed to take my iMac into a service centre, after exhausting all their online procedures.

Thankfully problem was easily solved at home by inserting earphones in and out of both jacks on rear of iMac. Problem solved. Someone can let apple online support know as they had no idea.
