How to remove microphone from screen

This microphone button is super annoying... How can I remove it?

Open Activity Monitor. Get to it via Spotlight Search, or double click on it in the folder /Applications/Utilities. Find the "Dictation" process, click the Quit ("x") button, then click Force Quit.

There is no dictation process at all! Could it be under another name?

It might also be "SpeechRecognitionServer." Plug "speech" into the search field in the upper right of the Activity Monitor window.
