Hard drive locked up and Apple store replaced H...

My hard drive locked up on start up.  The apple logo and the advancing bar below the logo just froze up.  Apple Genius in Madison MS, tried re installing software, tried analyzing, no results they finally offered the solution for a new HD since I have Apple Care.  I had programs and docs backed up but still lost some emails.   Now I find out it is an issue with the new IOS 10.12.6 update.  After backing up entire HD I once downloaded the update and installed it.  Sure enough on 'boot up' it froze again.  I restarted in recovery mode and re installed HD from the back up. Voila, everything is fine.   I think I will download the up date again and when the HD locks up, take the computer to Apple store for another new HD..... I wonder how many new HD they will give me before they fix the update.......???  Maybe they didn't install a new HD maybe they just reinstalled 10.12.3 version of IOS.............??... I hope not....

Your hard drive may not have nothing to do with your current problem. If an older version of the OS works, but the newer one does not, it usually points to some sort of software conflict. Do you have any antivirus or "cleaning" apps/software installed?

If you are on any 10.12 version, you can use the 10.12.6 Combo Updater instead of the Mac App Store to bring it up to date.

Yes that is my deduction, but evidently the people at the Apple Genius bar did not know there is a flaw in the new update.  problem is not the HD.  But perhaps Apple needs to replace several of them before they discover the HD is nto the problem but the new update is the problem.
