system taking up 200gb on Mac got the Mac yeste...

got my new MacBook Pro 2017 256GB yesterday and today it says 216GB is being used for the system but yesterday only 18

Try downloading and installing OmniDiskSweeper:  OmniDiskSweeper

 

OmniDiskSweeper will sort your files by size and show you where they are located. This should allow you to determine exactly what you have on your MBP.

You may also be able to move some of these larger files such as videos, etc. to an external drive to free up space on your startup drive.

 

DO NOT delete any files unless you know exactly what they are.

Since your computer is brand new Spotlight indexing might not be complete, leading to erroneous data reporting. Also Spotlight has known issues that can result in its database becoming corrupt which also leads to erroneous reporting. Give it a day or two in case Spotlight is still at work.
