How do I delete contacts on my iPad?

I am trying to delete old contacts on my iPad.  How do I do that?

Launch the contacts app. Tap on the contact that you want to delete, when the contact appears on the right, tap the Edit button at the bottom and swipe down to Delete contact and tap on Delete.

But if you are talking about the remembered email addresses that pop up in the mail app when you start typing an email, deleting the contact will not prevent those addresses from popping up. The mail app works independently of the contacts app in that regard, eventually the remembered addresses will go away if you don't use them, but it could take a while.

Go to Contacts, Edit, scroll to the bottom and Delete!

If you are talking about email addresses popping up when you start to type in Mail then you can't. They will eventually roll off. However, when  you click on the Plus sign the list will disappear.

As soon as I delete a contact it reappears

From my list of contacts on the iPad, there is an "Edit" tab at the top right, but when I open it, there is no "Delete" option that shows up on the list:

It only allows me to make changes to the Name, Company, Phone, Email, Ringtone, Texttone, Add URL, Add Address, and a string of other "Add . . .", but at the end of the page only has "Notes," "add field," and LINKED CONTACTS.

NO Delete option.

Am I on the wrong page?

When I delete everything, including the phone number, the name still shows up, but in light gray.
