Messages on Mac sending to the wrong person

I am having the most irritating problem on messages for Mac. Every time I go to send a message to my dad, it pulls him up, shows me his picture, and then sends the message to my mom instead... I checked the Contacts app and there doesn't seem to be anything connecting the two. I even deleted the info listing them as 'spouses' to each other. It seems like a weird coincidence that it's messing up between my mom and dad, but I can not for the life of me figure out why. It never happens on the iPhone or iPad. It's driving me nuts! Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Is there any chance that they share an Apple ID ?

If so then Messages will link that to any iPhones that they link to it.

This may mean that they have one ID and two iPhones link to iMessages.  (been there, done that and that way madness lies).

This also points out the issue may not be with your Address Cards for them but actually in the way they have their end(s) set up.

One of the biggest problem with Family Sharing is the fact several iPhones get linked to one ID.
