How to clean up  inherited 2009 MacBook Pro

We have inherited my deceased sister-in-law's mid-2009 MacBook Pro computer.  My ninth grade granddaughter needs a computer.  What is the best way to clean up before giving it to her?

There are a bunch of applications, such as TurboTax (many years) that need to be deleted.

The only thing I want to save on the computer is the Photo Library (did not use iPhoto) and the contacts.  She has MS Office 08, but not Pages or Numbers.  I have iWork 9.0.3 on a disk which has been installed on just 1 computer (mine).  What to do?  My granddaughter's needs are simple.

The HD is 250GB with about 50GB used.

On my computer, I have an empty 200GB partition on my external HD.  Can I clone  old computer with only 200GB available.

The computer will be connecting to a new internet carrier.

iCloud was not used on old computer.

I appreciate any help.

I should have noted the the PowerBook is running Os 10.11.3.
