Apple Cinema Display not working on new MacBook...

I bought a new MacBook Pro 2017 and I'm having problems connecting it to my Mac Cinema Display.  The new MacBook Pro has 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports and nothing else.  With my old MacBook Pro I used the DVI adapter that comes out of the Cinema Display.  I then plugged that into a mini display port to DVI adapter and plug that into the old MacBook Pro.  (This one:  Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter - Apple)  That always worked fine and I could have 2 screens when I'm in my office.

I called into Apple Support and worked with the person for quite a while on what may work.  They told me that Apple does not sell an adapter for this.  They pointed me to this adapter on Amazon:

Amazon.com: USB 3.1 Type C to HDMI Adapter, Topoint USB-C (Type C) to HDMI DVI 4K VGA Multilport Adaptor Converter with …

However, I just received it and it is not working.  When I plug the Cinema Display into the DVI port my MacBook Pro acts as though something has connected however the Cinema Display stays dark.  In fact, the Cinema Display's power light goes off altogether.  When I go into System Preferences and go to Display and then "Gather Windows" it does bring up the Cinema Display on my screen.  However, the screen is black and the power light appears to be off.  Very odd.

I thought perhaps the adapter was faulty but when I plug into the USB port everything works fine.  Also if I push my track pad to the left where the Cinema Display is it disappears from my screen as if it has gone to the other screen but nothing is there.  I am at a total loss as to what to do.  I plugged my old MacBook Pro in to make sure the Cinema Display hadn't just gone out but it works fine on my old machine.  Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.  I work from home and really need the second screen.  When I go into my corporate office I use a generic display and I do not have this issue.  I use a VGA adapter there (same one I used with my old laptop) and it works fine.
