iTunes (12.7.0.166)

For the past few months I've had an issue across multiple versions of macOS and iTunes where iTunes says it's unable to sync via wifi because my device is locked with a passcode.

 

This issue does not appear to affect my iPhone 7 Plus as it syncs as expected even when locked and without unlocking the device.

 

The dialog box below will pop up randomly usually after the device has been ideal for hours/days, I unlock the iPad with TouchID and attempt to click "Try Again," however the the dialog box will not clear and requires a forced quit of iTunes to resolve.

 

Once I unlock the iPad and restart iTunes syncing works as expected.

 

All devices are running most recent release of OS and firmware.
