I am switching from 5s to 7plus, can I save my messages? If so how and where do I back them up

If you back up your phone as described in How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, messages will be included.

Also, if you update your iPhone to iOS 11, released today, messages can now be synced over iCloud: Update the iOS on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.
