Sound problem

Everytime i use itunes and want to watch a movie the sound changes atomaticly over from my external dac to the internal speakers..  what can i do?  my dac works great with everything else on my imac..

Thanks for reaching out via the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand that you have a digital-to-analog audio converter being used with your iMac. While audio works without issue through the DAC for the most part, you have noticed your audio output switches to the iMac internal speakers when playing a movie in iTunes. I'd be happy to help!


I would recommend trying the following steps, in order, testing after each to see if the issue is resolved:
  1. Restart your devices. Your iMac can be restarted by clicking the Apple  menu in the upper left of the screen and choosing "Restart..." from the drop down menu. I would also suggest restarting the DAC. Check with your user guide/manual to find out how.
     
  2. Make sure your DAC is set as the audio output source, following steps here: Adjust your computer’s sound output settings.
     
  3. Check with the manufacturer of your DAC device for firmware/driver updates.
     
  4. Test the iTunes audio in a new user. The following article will explain how this can be helpful, and walk you through creating a new user account: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac.
