Apple Watch keeps resetting itself to Factory D...

Hi there,

A client of mine has a Gen2 Apple Watch and purchased it towards the end of last year.

Since he's had it, it's spontaneously reset itself back to factory defaults on average every few weeks (the time varies). Every time it happens, he's asked me to help him set it back up again. Each time I've set it back up, I've had to remove the old pairing data from the watch app on his iPhone 6s Plus and re-pair it again.

This has happened numerous times and we have had it replaced once through Apple because of the issue.

The replacement watch now has the same problem as well and the problem reoccurs regardless of whether you restore the watch from a backup or set it up as a new device.

I'm at a loss now of what to do from here. I suspect it's the iPhone but the client has a number of business-critical apps that need to be set up manually so a factory reset of the phone is an extreme last-resort solution (that may not even fix the problem).

Has anyone else come across this problem before? Any help would be appreciated.

Brendon

Hi

Given the steps that you have already tried, I suggest that you unpair the Apple Watch, back up the iPhone (you may wish to select the option to Encrypt iTunes backup, if using iTunes), restore the iPhone to factory settings, restore it from backup and then re-pair the Apple Watch.
