My mac reads .jar files as .zip so it duplicate...

My mac reads .jar files as .zip files so it duplicates the files instead of opening them

JarLauncher s located in your Hard Drive/System/Library/CoreServices/Jar\ Launcher.app

You will need to have Java installed

.jar files are compressed java files and do not need to be decompressed.   This is normal behavior.

Hold down the control key and select a file of the given type in the Finder. A contextual menu appears. Release the control key and hold down the option key. From the contextual menu, select the submenu

The Jar Launcher app is located in the System/Library/CoreServices folder. If you use it a lot create an alias of it and place in your Applications folder or wherever.

Java is installed on my computer, but does not come up as an option for opening the zip. What now?

Its a .zip file not a .jar file. You can only open .jar files with java launcher. :)
