My itunes skips every song

Howdy All

Desperate for help

I have Windows 7 64 Bit - fully patched.  I also have latest version of Itunes.

For the last 3-4 months, my itunes has not played music.  But sometimes it does (intermittent).

If I double click a song, it instantly skips to the next, then the next then the next and so on and so forth until it has gone over all 8000 songs in my collection.

When Itunes does work, it plays every song without issue.

I have tried everything to fix it.  I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled at least a dozen times, I have done clean installs, removing all insatnces of the program.  As a BSc (COMSCI) and IS Major, I know enough to know that there is something wrong.

Does anybody have ANY idea what is going on with my Itunes

I am desperate for a fix

Please help

Cheers

Mick

I don't know the answer to this but it might be worth considering a problem with the library database.

Try creating a new test library to see if the problem persists there.

First go into preferences and uncheck "Copy to iTunes media folder when adding files..."

Then close iTunes. Hold down the shift key and start iTunes. Keep holding the shift key until you are prompted to create a library. Create a new library somewhere away from your current library.

Add a few tracks and see if they play OK. If they do, try recreating your library according to this method.

You could also try deleteing the preference files, the following libnk contains instruction under user specific troubleshooting.

https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717

Finally when you uninstalled iTunes, did you do a complete removal as in the following link?

Hi Polydorus

Tried absolutely everything here, no joy !

Tried

- Creating new libraries (actually done this  a few time now)

- Created a new user in windows (fault persisted)

- Tried to strat in Safe Mode (it wouldnt work)

- Deleted the preference files (no change)

Thanks for the suggestions, any other ideas ?

Am willing to pay if someone can fix this, its cost me at least 20 hours with no solution to date

I am afraid I am at a loss. It must be some system wide problem if it happens in another account.

Maybe something is being left behind in the registry which is causing the problem. Maybe try using some thing like revouninstaller to remove all registry entries relating to iTunes.

If the registry is not the problem, the fact that that the problem resisted a complete removal and install of iTunes suggests that there may be something else on your PC that is upsetting iTunes.

Have you tried using MSConfic to do a selective startup, maybe you have a software conflict:

Here is an article on troubleshooting conflicts:

I am having the same issue. I have done several clean wipes and still nothing.

Dude

I am sorry you have the same problem, but in a sense am happy that I am not alone with this.

What have you done so far to diagnose the fault

1.     I just ran Combofix yesterday, and then I got a super dooper "Revo uninstaller", reinstalled iTunes and the problem persists,

2.     I am now certain that it is not spyware, or Malware or a virus for that matter

3.     I know my music is ok

It must be a conflict on my system.  Could it be that iTunes for 64 Bit Windows 7 has a fault ?

Cheers

Mick

May seem a little excessive to everyone at what I did, but I wasn't targeting this issue I was just fixing other things.

Did a few computer resets

(fist time)Went from Windows 7 to Factory Vista, then upgraded to windwos 7

(second time) Went from w7 from first attempt to reset by doing fresh windows 7.

Both times I formated my disk drive and cleared it of anything. My music was all bought from various iTunes accounts and were all backed up on iTunes Match or ipad/iphone/ipod.

I have been running windows update during both sessions and all 167+ updates are installed and still having this issue.

Using 10.6. Never had this particular issue until I went to 10.6 around a week ago.(also using 64bit system)

Did you try looking for conflicts with MSConfig?

I assume your tracks play OK in another player such as Window Media Player?

On malware that was a good idea, did you also try the free scanner from Malwarebytes, that is very good.

Did you remove all the Apple/iTunes entries in the registry.

Did you you remove all the iTunes related programs listed in the iTunes uninstall instructions, including deleting any remaining folders.

In addition, there are there is a configuration file in a hidden folder:

Program Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info

The configuration file can cause problems for all users although I haven't heard of it causing skipping. It might be worth deleting it, but deauthorise you PC first as it holds authorisation data. The configuration file will be recreated when iTunes starts.

See https://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363

If absolutely everything apple related is removed and the problem persists after a reinstall, it does suggest a software conflict or a problem with Windows.

Problems with Segoe fonts have caused issues but related to display problems rather than skipping tracks.

If you ever find a solution, it would be great to hear what it was, this is very puzzling.

If you happen to have a Lenovo Y570 then this will work.......

Uninstall Lenovo R.I.C. (or disable the DJ RIC feature).

It has a feature that will skip songs based on your tapping the microphone... Apparently, it randomly thinks music beats are taps

I had the same problem and I uninstalled Lenovo R.I.C. and it works great now!

Mine does this, too! New computer, new version of iTunes. Tell me it's a bug in the current version?

Probably five years too late, but just in case someone else has this problem : click on account and then click on "authorize this device" (even if it's already authorized, it seems all that may be required is a credentials refreshing) and then it will prompt you for your apple ID password. Once that is done, try playing the songs and the songs won't be skipped.
