nvidia quadro 4000 on early Mac Pro 2008

I have just been given a mac pro early 2008 (3.1).

I am looking at the nvidia quadro 4000 gpu as it seems reasonably priced.

I would like to know the following -

Must I get a mac version or would any quadro 4000 work?

In some pics of it installed in a mac pro I notice a wire coming out and plugging in somewhere in the mac. The gpus I have seen for sale are not including that wire (I am assuming for power).  Is it essential and if so how easy is it to get hold of a replacement?  Any particular part number or model of cable I would need?
