Dvorak

Hi,

Can someone confirm or deny whether:

1) the iPad supports a Dvorak keyboard layout in software
2) you can use a qwerty bluetooth keyboard in Dvorak mode
2) you can use the "keyboard dock" in Dvorak mode

Thanks

Nope. Nope and nope. In reality, the Dvorak layout is about as popular as WordStar in today's world.

I didn't think anyone even knew what the Dvorak keyboard was anymore, much less anyone using it.

Are you saying you've tried it and it doesn't work or that you can't confirm whether it works?

I touch type Dvorak, as do many of the fastest typists in the world. If I can't use at least a hardware Dvorak keyboard then the iPad is useless to me.

Then wait for some Windows box tablet thingy to sometime, maybe, possibly come out.

Very few people use it anymore. I read one article where less than 100,000 people worldwide still use dvorak.

The absence of Dvorak was clear when the tech specs were published two months ago.

To tell Apple you want this, go here:

Yes, we are a minority. But this doesn't change the fact that if the iPad doesn't support it, I'm not buying one.

And yet, there's this: https://www.tuaw.com/2010/03/19/ipad-dvorak-hardware-keyboard/ so who am I to believe?

That's what I'm going to do, wait for an android tablet, unless someone can confirm that they can use a dvorak keyboard at least through hardware. Then I'll get an iPad.

the Dvorak keyboard is not supported by Apple at this time. The only way Apple will 'support' it is if there is a 3rd party app or hardware device to allow for it.

Oh well. I'm sure that some Windoze tablet will come out that gets 2 hour battery life and supports dvorak.

Evidence ? Somehow I doubt that such typing experts are going to be using an iPad so its unlikely to be much of an issue.

Find someone who has an iPad and if they are at all more courteous than the put-down artists offering no-help replies to this thread, ask them to verify the key layouts in iPhone OS 3.2. It shouldn't take more than a minute.

I'm a Dvorak user (Apple's //c hardware switch got me hooked before the first Mac ever shipped) and I'm going to request it if it's not there. But it didn't keep me from ordering a (3G) iPad. I'm not planning to do much typing (as I don't on my iPhone).
