Electric Shock while charging IPad

hello

anybody having the same problem as me when i charge my Ipad from the wall socket and touch the back of the ipad i get an electric shock like when you get a shock from a nine volt battery is this normal or should i go to the apple shop near me

Possibly just static discharge as the official Apple charger is good quality and only exhibits low leakage current (about 30uA or 0.00003A) so you can't feel it. If not the original charger then it may indicate a problem with the charger or poor design.

I am afraid this is a poor answer, as it is commonly known the iPad has a ground issue while charging.  The device exhibits an electrical tingle, not exactly a shock, while charging that is reminiscent of a table lamp that has a bad ground.  If it weren't for Apple's outstanding quality in other areas this would not be such a big issue.

Any class II (double insulated) device has a maximum allowed leakage current of 250uA and any class I (earthed) device has a maximum permitted leakage current of 3500uA. I measud my iPad charger and found about 30uA leakage.

The general level of perception to electric current is about 500uA, but some can perceive lower currents. When a class II device is first touched there can be a larger current flowing for a short period (due to capacitive charge effects) but again these are limited to safe levels by the device safety standards (normally IEC 60950 series).

No certified device on the open market will exceed these safe levels and normally will be well under the limits ( e.g a typical class II device will be about 120uA and a class I device about 1000uA).

In countries with poor electrical supplies there is a bigger chance of of a fault with the wiring or installation causing a hazard than the class II charger of any Apple product.

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

Hello. I lived in malaysia and that thing happen also with my new ipad.  I can feel a weird, fuzzy feeling when I brush the metal parts of my iPad while charging . But I'm not getting electricity shock from that. I had check my house socket and the earth is ok. Is it normal? Or I should return my ipad.

The brushed surface finish of the aluminium of the iPad can give the sensation of a vibration or tingling feeling when lightly brushed with your fingers. This is normal due to the fine ridges in the surface finish.

If using the original Apple charger a fault is highly unlikely as this is a class II (double insulated) product.

But as always with any safety concerns take your charger and iPad to Apple for evaluation if you are concerned.

It's happening to my iPad AND iPhone.... not really happy about it.... big dollars spent, not happy one b
